Genocide

Why do good people, so compassionate towards individuals in need, become apathetic when the number of people in need grows? This question pertains to all manners of mass tragedies caused by disease, poverty, famine, war, genocide, natural disasters, and environmental degradation. We believe that a deeper understanding of the affective and deliberative processes of the human mind will lead to more effective ways to engage compassion in the service of humanitarian needs and environmental sustainability.
